Yeah, the letters in white to the left of the roundel are the 'Squadron Code', they show what unit the aircraft belongs to, and the letters to the right identify the aircraft within the unit. For example the one on the far right has 'AE', that's No.402 Squadron, and it's aircraft A on that squadron.

I hope that's right, if not I'm happy to be corrected!

Such a pretty plane. They shouldn't have used them for war. Only air shows!! (Okay, just a thought, y'know). Nic pic, too!
